Writing this letter to you brings forth thoughts
that I still have a lot of work to do. No matter how
much I learn and accomplish, there will always be
more to learn and accomplish. Since becoming an
esthetician in 1978, knowing what I know now, I
realize it has been quite a trip. This industry has
grown, and the range and types of people getting
involved in skin and body care continue to amaze me.
In the beginning, it was difficult to find
information, organizations or books/journals
pertaining to this industry. There were only a
handful of places, mostly in New York and California
offering the level of skin and body care that we now
take for granted. Most of the places were of
European philosophies, owned by Europeans. Even when
Americans started getting more seriously in the
business, they touted "European Facial". In fact, I
got into the industry with a "facial specialist"
license and the facial consisted of cleansing,
massage and a mask. That's about as simple as it
gets. While reading a hairdresser trade journal, I
ran across an advertisement for a booklet "How to
give a European Facial" send $1. I did! The booklet
arrived. Words like exfoliation, extraction,
desencrustation, high frequency, etc. really
intrigued me. These words were never part of my
training. I ordered equipment and asked for a
training manual for the equipment. I got a
textbook - "The Standard Textbook for the
Professional Esthetician and Makeup Artist" by Joel
Gerson. Thank you Joel for writing that book.
I became an addict to that book. I copied the
various treatments for oily skin, dry skin,
combination skin, etc. all with the use of
equipment. I used the cheat-sheets until one day it
all became clear - why I do this before that and so
on.
Facials became my passion. Logic drove the passion.
Clients were impressed with my work and shared
information on facials and treatments they had
received from here and there. I listened. Soon, my
work started making major shifts as I moved "outside
the box" of the standard facial procedures. I found
that a steamer was, for the most part, the only
equipment I needed. I started thinking and imagining
what certain techniques would feel like. Clients
started "ooohing and ahhhing" and I knew this was a
good thing. The more they liked what I did, the
better it got. I paid attention to their skin and
how it responded. I talked about what they ate. What
products they used.
Today, we hear the same comments over and over and
they go something like this:
"W O W !!! What an experience!"
"I've traveled all over the world and never had a
facial like that."
"WHEW !! Thank you! "
"There are no words to describe this."
"I feel like kissing my own toes."
(comment after our Luxor Foot Bath hydrotherapy foot
treatment)
We have an in-house training program and each
technician is "Skill Certified" before they are ever
allowed to perform the service. Each of my staff
are trained to do the same work I do and
they are confident in their work. So confident
that if they need a second opinion, they ask for it.
We look at dietary considerations in evaluating skin
problems, we inquire about habits and products you
may be using. We do not believe in treating all
pimples the same nor do we treat all wrinkles the
same. Skin sensitivities concern us and our holistic
philosophies encourage a treatment that differs
greatly from the norm. We use hydrotherapy
techniques to manipulate the skin and body to heal
itself.
The products we have chosen to use are
Source Vitál. In fact, I must confess, I was the
formulator for the majority
of the product line (as former owner of Source Vitál).
Source Vitál is
aromatherapy and seaweed based and I must say, I've
been to a lot of trade shows and I'm always looking
for new ideas and great products. Until Source
Vitál, I had not found a single product that
inspires me. Source Vital does not use animal
products and, of course, they or their ingredients
(very important) are not tested on animals. We
personally are not vegan (although I believe in it),
but Source Vitál is. We have never found that
using animal products or human by-products get the
results Source Vitál gets when using pure,
natural plant based ingredients in our products.
Results are what we get. Holistic treatments with a
serious product and a treatment philosophy combined
to stimulate, soothe, flush, detox, regenerate,
remineralize exfoliate, cleanse, etc., etc. We do go
beyond our natural plant products and offer some of
the more aggressive technologies such as
microdermabrasion, chemical peels and glycolic acid.
We feel we need to provide these services for some
of the more severe skin situations. However, you
must know that we follow up with feeding and
regeneration of the skin.
See our brochures on
hydrotherapy and
body work/massage and find out more of
our body philosophies. We read and study all the
time. We think you'll love our work, philosophies,
and atmosphere. We get involved in your special
needs and are always on the lookout to find answers
for you.
